Into The (Rhondda) Valley
Hello there. Hope you’re feeling well.
On Monday I decided to take a train journey from Penarth to the village of Llwnapia in the Rhondda valley to visit a friend who had been in hospital and his partner. Won’t say much about the friend here. Just that he seems thankfully fine.
But it’s been a long while since I’ve been on a significant train journey so I won’t lie this was quite exciting just to do that.
The plan was simple. Take the train from Penarth to Cardiff Queen Street, then one from there to Pontypridd where I would hopefully go to a book stall in the local market. I say hopefully because I’d not visited the area before the pandemic. That done go onward to Llwnapia for lunch
So let’s start with Penarth station at around 10am. It’s cold but not too cold. Grey but not too grey. A day that’s just right for travel.
One of the the unsung pleasures of going on a long train journey is not just wallowing in the views but conversely the time it gives for you to read a book.
In that I was prepared.
And during the course of the day I read over 100 pages.
I went first to Cardiff Central Train Station before changing to a train to Pontypridd. There I wanted to go to a particular bookshop before taking the onward train to Llwnapia.
A few pictures here.
